This jaunty little fellow appears to be a beer-drinking German or Austrian in the tradition of the student prince (if you are familiar with that old musical). He has a beer bottle in his right hand and a sword strapped to his left hip, and of course that fabulous red feather in his hat. Very festive!

Speaking of things German... on Saturday night I had a slice of German chocolate cake that was just heavenly. We stopped in for dessert at Cafe Mozart (70th and Broadway) after the play. The desserts there are always incredibly good, and the cake I had was no exception.

In other food news, I eat an awful lot of tuna salad sandwiches for someone who does not like fish. I wonder why.
