Sleep

People always talk about the lack of sleep, but I had no idea how tough it would really be. I am normally a person who doesn't need a lot of sleep, so I guess I always figured I'd do okay with the newborn schedule. Boy, was I wrong!

It's not the lack of sleep that's a problem, it's the unpredictability of being able to get it at all. I know everyone says to sleep when the baby sleeps, but my problem is I never know if a nap is going to turn out to be two hours or two minutes. Also, I find it difficult to fall asleep at any hour of the day or night at the drop of a hat. I guess a few more weeks of the current schedule will make that easier for me though.

Actually, we just aren't on any kind of schedule here at all right now, and that is the bigger issue. We are slowly getting our feeding issues worked out, though, and I feel like that will be the key to establishing a routine.

But hey, at least someone in the house is getting some sleep. And look how cute he is!

I'm not sure if you are breastfeeding but if you are, try feeding while lying down, if you're lucky you'll both fall asleep. I always found baby slept longer when I was lying with him, so did I. Good luck, he is adorable, congratulations!

I used to tell expecting parents to sleep, for God's sake, just sleep. Forget about spending time together or going on one last trip or any of those things, just spend every possible minute sleeping, like twelve hours a day while you still can. Then I figured out that it's not a warning you can really appreciate till you're there and it's too late.
I also now know why my parents made me get up so early when I was a teenager and wanted to sleep late. They were just getting me back. It's also probably why really old people sleep all the time. They are just catching up. Good luck! I know I say it in every comment, but Alex sure is cute!!

Alex is adorable!

I hope that the little cutie can get on a schedule soon and that you can get some decent sleep. I can imagine how difficult it must be to feel so exhausted all the time.
