Friday Update

Cutie pie
Originally uploaded by Raspberry World.

I feel like summer's coming to an end. Labor day's a week off, and then I will go back to work part time and Alex will go to daycare two days a week... it's going to be a big change for us. I think he'll enjoy going to "school," though, and in some ways it will be nice to be back at work.

Anyway, we're packing in all the summer fun we can right now. Yesterday we wen to the beach at Lighthouse Point in New Haven. Last weekend we were at the beer garden with Amanda and her family (she took the picture above while we were there).

I just uploaded a short video that I made last week. Alex is a lot faster now but he still favors that style of "crawling" when he's on the smooth vinyl floor. On the carpet he actually gets up on hands and knees and crawls (usually towards Ziggy). In the video he is chasing a cat toy, pushing along on his tummy on the floor. You'll be glad to know that after I took this video, I actually got him some toys of his own to chase...

Anyway, he scoots around so much that his clothes are always dusty. Marty and I were discussing it, and we think it would be a good idea if Swiffer made a onesie. Marty suggested that we start calling him "Roomba."

Well, Alex and I are off to the airport as soon as he wakes up from his nap. Marty is on his way back from (another) business trip... we'll be glad to see him!

Have a great weekend!

Still Blue

At the sign language class
Originally uploaded by Raspberry World.

Well, it looks like those eyes are going to stay blue. I never imagined I would have a child with blue eyes!

The picture was taken earlier this week at a sign language class we attended with our playgroup. I have been doing a few signs with Alex for the last couple of months and he recognizes "milk." We'll be adding in more now. It will probably still be a couple of months before he signs back.

Alex has hit a whole new level of physical activity in the last couple of weeks. He can roll at will (check out the pictures of him flipping over on the changing table!) and can push himself up into a sitting position. When I walk into his room now, I often find him sitting up in the crib. He can also pull up from sitting onto his knees, if he has a piece of furniture close enough to grab. He can pull himself forward on his stomach, and crawl backwards on hands and knees.

He also seems to like the bath a lot better than he used to! He enjoys splashing his hands in the water and playing with ducks or stacking cups. I think he likes being in the big bathtub a lot better than the baby tub.

Well, this is just a quick update. I think he's awake from his nap and ready to get up now. Have a great weekend!

Whee!

First time in the swing!
Originally uploaded by Raspberry World.

Here is Alex enjoying his first ride in a swing at the park! I've been waiting for months for him to be big enough to go in the baby swings, and now I think he is. He sits up so well that I wasn't worried about his head flopping around anymore. He did great!

We've had a fun weekend. Yesterday we went on a hike up the Mattabesett trail and Alex rode in the new backpack carrier. He seemed to like being up so high. He even took a nap in the carrier!

Today we went out to the park and then to Lyman Orchards. The local peaches are in! They are delicious.

Last week was a big week around here. You may have heard that the Connecticut Democrats chose a new candidate to run for senate this fall. Ned Lamont defeated Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary last Tuesday. Marty, Alex, and I met Ned Lamont the week before, at a rally here in Middletown.

It's been interesting to see all the national (and even international) press coverage of our local primary election!

Six Months!

Big boy!
Originally uploaded by Raspberry World.

Alex is six months old today! To celebrate, we went to the hospital to meet up with our old breastfeeding support group (this week is National Breastfeeding Week). It was great to see everyone again!

The weather is so hot here right now that we didn't get to spend much more time outside today. It has been in the 90s for the last several days. That makes going to the park really tough. That's why all the pictures I've posted lately were taken indoors!

This evening I added a couple of links that may interest some of you. Over on the right there is now a link to the Flickr galleries and a link to the YouTube videos. There are some little video clips up there that I've never linked to before (including one from today) so the die-hard fans may want to check them out (ie, the grandparents). Enjoy!
