Spring is here. I’m so glad.

This week we are seeing bright blue skies and warmer days. Monday, Alex and I went to the aquarium with our new neighbors. We had a great time watching the whales, fish, and sea lions. We didn’t take the stroller and Alex really enjoyed walking with the group like a big boy.

Today we hosted a playdate at home, with two little girls (18 months and 2 years old). We played in Alex’s playroom and then went outside to play on the swings in the backyard. The children played in the school bus tent and the playhouse. We had snacks and the moms drank coffee. It was a fun time! Our first social event in our new home. It was just what I needed to get the house in (semi-)presentable condition.

I’ll be working the rest of the week, but I am so relieved this weather is finally here. It is gorgeous today! I raked a huge pile of leaves in the backyard and there’s much more yet to do…

Also, our tomato seeds have sprouted.

Starting this spring, we’ll be picking up fresh produce from Woodbridge Farm, an organic farm just down the road in Salem, CT. We joined the farm’s CSA (community supported agriculture) program. I predict that our Friday pickups will become something Alex and I look forward to all week!

But right now we’re still living with the snow and ice, and just dreaming of warmer weather!

Look at that smile. Can you believe this little guy will be 2 tomorrow?

We are in the process of moving to our new house. Marty took this week off from work and he’s been driving loads over in his truck all week. On Saturday, a bunch of our friends are coming to help us out with the rest of the furniture.

Alex loves the house! When we are at the condo, he asks “back… new house?”

His vocabulary is exploding right now, and a lot of his new words are related to the move. He talks about packing, boxes, and tape. He checks several times a day to make sure Ziggy is coming to the new house with us. And he knows that most of his toys are in the playroom at the new house.

It should be an eventful birthday for Alex, with Nana and Granddad here visiting. Tomorrow he will spend the night with them at the new house, on his second birthday, while we come back over here to be ready for our move on Saturday. I’ll try to post some pictures soon.

Alex is starting to put two-word phrases together. His first was “sit down.” But here are some other things he can say:

Daddy truck. Referring to Marty’s truck, which Alex loves. He especially loves to ride in it in his car seat, sitting up high and looking out the front window.

Cracker Barrel. Alex only has to hear a phrase once or twice to pick it up, and this is a good example of that. When my mom was visiting during the holidays, we ate at Cracker Barrel one night, and Alex has never forgotten the name of the place. (The rest of us can’t forget the world-class tantrum he threw in the restaurant that night, but he doesn’t seem to remember that part.)

Happy happy. This is Alex’s way of saying “happy birthday.”

Ziggy Doctor. No, Ziggy isn’t pursuing a new line of work. Alex came with me to the vet’s office one day, and now he informs me every time we drive past the animal hospital on our way through town.

Tree all gone. The Christmas tree is packed up and in its box, and Alex reminds me of it frequently, pointing at the tree box for emphasis.

New house. Alex has noticed that everyone around here is talking about “new house” recently, so he is too. In the last few days, he’s added another word to this phrase: “soon.”

And he’s right. We are getting ready for a new house – and we’re going very soon!

It is hard to believe that in just an hour, it’ll be 2008. I told Marty that 2008 sounds like it should be way off in the future sometime, when we’re really old.

Oh… right.

Anyway, it’s been quite a year around here. We went from living with a baby to a little boy. A little boy with likes, dislikes, and many, many opinions. For instance: apples should be offered whole, rather than sliced. Even if he doesn’t like to eat the peel. And we should only play the songs he wants to hear in the car, even if we can’t understand which song he’s asking for. The wrong one will get you a big “NO NO NO NO NO!” from the back seat.

To celebrate the new year, we went to a party earlier this evening with several other families from our playgroup. Alex had a blast playing with all the other kids and the toys – what fun. Now we are having a quiet evening at home until the new year.

2008 is going to be a big year for us. I’ll post more about our plans soon. Hope it’s a happy and successful one for all of you Raspberry World readers, as well.
