bedroom1.jpg (24411 bytes)This is pretty representative of the kinds of problems all the floors had.  These holes were patched with all kinds of stuff: particle board, plywood, drywall and mortar (I'm serious).  We pulled all that stuff up and used chisels and the SkilSaw to cut the floorboards back in a staggered pattern around the holes.

You'll see in the trash can a piece of the nasty gold carpet that was in almost every room in the house.

Once we got the holes cut out and the floor cleaned up, it looked like this:

bedroom3.jpg (28165 bytes)Next we had to cut floorboards to fit the gaps.  The wood was old heart pine, and they don't have the kind or the size we needed at Home Depot.  So we sacrificed the floor in the study and used the wood to fix the other floors.  Here's a picture of Marty and Jim fitting the new pieces into the floor.

And this is what the floor looked like after the new pieces were in and the surface was sanded.  You can't even see the patches!
