Thoughts from Moz
Host Family

November 23, 2000: My host family is just one woman--Ancha. She is awesome. She has a beautiful house--an enclosed compound--and she locks us in every night. I have a separate living quarters--I just happened to get lucky. So we aren't living on top of one another and I don't feel like I can't get away.

With Ancha, my host mother.

December 25, 2000.

Ancha's birthday is Christmas day. I baked a birthday cake for her. She wanted a picture of her taking a bite, but for some reason she had others holding the fork with her. A Mozambican custom.

This is on her veranda -- the front porch of the house. She has a really nice vine growing to shade it.

Left to right: Anna, Ancha, Roseanna.

I love Ancha's outfit here. Her shoes are gorgeous!

Mozambican people rarely smile in pictures like Americans do. Hence, the failure to seem enthused about having a picture taken. However, they LOVE having their pictures taken. Truly adore it.

Note the red panties hanging on the clothesline in the background.

I think Roseanna is gorgeous!

We're inside the compound. You can see the wall in the background. To the left is the quarters where I slept. The right is the bathroom and shower. The line above our heads is the electricity power line.
