Thoughts from Moz
Moamba

January 16, 2001: I moved in yesterday at the Moamba school. My house is next to Thomas'. I donīt have water, though, not really. It comes on at some time during the night so I can fill a water basin and my kitchen sink. There is water on school grounds, though, so there is always water...just not coming out of the pipes in my house. The school is a compound. Some of the students live on the grounds, the others live in the community. The school was built in 1999 by the government in Finland so itīs quite nice.

[Note: Rebekah stayed in Moamba until May, 2001, when she moved to Boane to teach at Casa do Gaiatos.]

Me with 8th grade students from Moamba.

The blue ribbon on the student's shirt indicates that his brother or sister died.

This student's name is Said. He is one of the funniest, sweetest students. He is in the 9th grade in Moamba.
These girls are in the 8th grade at Moamba.
Boys in 8th grade at Moamba.
Me with two of the kitchen workers from Moamba. Moamba has a dormitory for students, and these women work in the kitchen there.
Damiao (center, standing, in red shirt) with his students in 9th grade, section 3. He is the equivalent of their homeroom teacher.

Damiao's nickname is Tajob. His friend Fernando had this hat made for Damiao while in New York City on business.

A student from Moamba. He's in 10th grade.
Students in 8th grade. The girl in blue curlers is Flora.
