Ready to Fall
Meredith Edwards

I get a feeling
I can't explain
Whenever your eyes meet mine
My heart spins in circles
And I lose all space and time
And now that we're standing face to face
Somethin' tells me
It's gonna be okay

And I'm ready to fall in love tonight
Ready to hold my heart open wide
I can't promise forever but baby I'll try
Yes, I'm ready to fall in love tonight

I know you've been watching
Choosin' your moment
I've been dreaming of that day
No one before you has gotten to me this way
And now that we're standing face to face
There's something that I need to say

And I'm ready to fall in love tonight
Ready to hold my heart open wide
I can't promise forever but baby I'll try
Yes, I'm ready to fall in love tonight

Nothing is certain, this I know
Wherever we're headed I'm ready to go
I can't promise forever but baby I'll try
Yes I'm ready to fall in love tonight
Yes I'm ready to fall in love tonight
Yes, I'm ready to fall in love tonight

Baby what's the deal?
Would I be too forward if I
Told you how I feel?
That's just the way I do my thang
I'm so for real
Are you feelin' my Timbs
My baggy jeans, my thug appeal?
Do you like it when a man can keep it real?

Keepin' it real

If I didn't have cheese like every day
Would you still wanna be with me?

(For Nikki)

Tell me, tell me baybay,
How come you don't wanna love may?

Does he freak you the way that I do?

Are you feelin' my Timbs, my baggy jeans, my thug appeal?
Do you like it when a man can keep it real?

If I wasn't a celebrity
Would you be so nice to me?

The Night I Fell In Love
The Pet Shop Boys

I was backstage
Couldn’t believe my luck was in
I saw him approach
Wearing a most approachable grin
When he said 'hello'
I was surprised
He spoke so politely
I said 'I liked the show'
Well he just smiled
I guess it happens nightly
And so I fell in love

We went to his room
He had a video camera
I was so nervous
I had to try hard not to stammer
He said 'I’m glad you liked the show
That crowd was dope out there tonight'
'Alright'
'You wanna see some more?
Well, be my guest
You can have a private performance'
I’d fallen in love

I didn’t ask why
Though he seemed like such a regular guy
He said we could be secret lovers
Just him and me
then he joked 'Hey man
your name isn't Stan, is it?
We should be together'
And he was passionate
I guess I would rate
him a nine out of ten
by then
I'd fallen in love

When I asked
'why have I heard I so much
about him being charged
with homophobia and stuff'
he just shrugged

Next morning we woke (secret lovers)
He couldn't have been a nicer bloke
Over breakfast made jokes
about Dre and his homies and folks
Neither of us asked if or when
we would see each other again
But I thought that was cool
'cause I was already late for school
By then
I'd fallen in love

Secret lovers

Saving My (Musical) Soul

Something shifted inside me today, and the *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and Eminem came out of the CD changer. Hallelujah! I hear you shout.

Instead I loaded up the following discs, and thoroughly enjoyed them as I tooled around doing my errands all day:

  • Bob Dylan, Love and Theft
  • Dave Matthews Band, Crash
  • Indigo Girls, Become You
  • R.E.M., New Adventures in Hi-Fi
  • Golden Days (my mix)
  • WIMH: Forest (my mix)
I almost felt like a grown-up again...

Boyband Redux

Over in England I didn't hear a single *NSYNC song. Well, I didn't listen to the radio at all, either, but I did hear one song by Backstreet and a couple by Ricky Martin, when we were in restaurants and stores. Still, you know, England has a rich tradition of boybands of its own, and *NSYNC is probably just one boyband of many as far as they are concerned over there. Here, *NSYNC are the kings of teen pop. (Funny how *NSYNC can be either a singular or a plural noun, isn't it?)

I am really grooving on JC Chasez's voice these days. I particularly like it on some of the songs on No Strings Attached (which by the way is a great album), especially "It's Gonna Be Me." The funny thing is, that song also showcases what I think of as the worst attributes of Justin Timberlake's voice, and JC is singing like an angel over the whole thing. He can really sing. He should be the one working on a solo project, not Justin.

"It's Gonna Be Me" is also a great song to listen to if you want to hear Justin doing that awful machine-voice thing he does, and mispronouncing common English words as if he were a non-native speaker (it's gonna bay may!). If you've heard Britney Spears sing, you know what I'm talking about. She does the same thing. It's highly entertaining, and much fun to sing along with. Because anyone can sing like that, you know? You don't actually have to have a good singing voice.

Maybe sometime I'll write about the influences I hear in *NSYNC music, from new jack swing to euro-pop. But not today. Count your blessings.
