I Wish I Were a Beach Boy

I made this CD as a present for two good friends of mine, both named Laura, who love the Beach Boys. One Laura I've known for two years, the other I met in high school, but both of them have helped me appreciate the incredible range of the Beach Boys' music. I'm very grateful to both of them for that.

This is my tribute to the influence the Beach Boys have exerted over rock music. I just picked a bunch of my favorite songs by current artists that use elements of the Beach Boys' style: vocal harmonies, guitar sounds, a theremin, sleigh bells. The last song on the disk, Thunderstorm, is a 10-minute piece that progresses through several different styles and sounds; I can't help but think Matthew Sweet was thinking of Good Vibrations when he made this song.
