9. Counting Crows, August and
Everything After (1993)
This Counting Crows CD is the only debut album
on my top ten list. I also love their followup effort, Recovering the Satellites
(1996), but August and Everything After is just a great rock album that keeps me
coming back even five years later. They had a lot of hits from this album --
"Round Here," "Mr. Jones," "Rain King" -- but one of the
best things about the record is that there are other songs just as good or better that
were never released as singles. There's an edge to some of these songs that's almost
raw, and the lyrics are challenging enough to make you think, but simple enough to make
you sing. |
