A Little Glam Never Hurt Anyone

September, 1999

I've loved certain glam rock icons for many years (David Bowie, T. Rex, Bryan Ferry) but I didn't actually get into the glam rock genre until late 1998. First, all my friends started talking about the movie Velvet Goldmine, then Tj (who grew up on glam) started supplying me with music by glam-offspring bands like Duran Duran.

So I went looking for a compilation CD that would satisfy my desire for more glam. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one. Either they were really expensive imports, or they lacked major figures that I didn't think I could do without. So I figured I'd have to make one of my own, one of these days.

Almost a year later, when I got the CD burner, I'd managed to collect a bunch of the music I wanted on a glam compilation. I found all of it used, and I think I still spent less than I would have on those imports!

The CD turned out really well, and it's still one of my favorites. I did scandalize at least one glam connoisseur by including Iggy & the Stooges on the disk, but one thing I've learned about glam is, it's all in the attitude.  With the right attitude, you can pull anything off.
