Kloster Andechs
October 27, 2002

Kloster Andechs is a monastery that has been brewing beer since 1455. It is located above Lake Ammersee, near Munich. Today there is a nice beer hall there with outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. The Andechs beers are very good. The food there is hearty and very Bavarian: pork, pork, and more pork.

We drove up for lunch on Sunday, and enjoyed sitting outside in the sun. Here are a few pictures we took that day.

The church is very beautiful on the outside. It is being renovated at the moment and so it's closed to visitors inside.

The Andechs Maibaum, or May pole. Every town and village in Bavaria has one of these May poles (or several!). They are always painted blue and white, the colors of the sky, the Virgin, and Bavaria itself.

Outdoor seating. Furry friends are welcome. Dogs are often seen at indoor eating establishments as well as outdoor.

Enjoying the late October sun.

Where's Marty?

The view from Kloster Andechs.

Inside the beer hall, a ceramic stove for heating. Notice the dog sitting on the bench to the right.

Our lunch.
We both had pork roast (Rollbraten) and potato salad.
And we split that honkin' big pretzel.
