Miscellaneous Pictures, 2003

These are pictures that I took here and there. Mostly I didn't have enough to make a whole page out of them, so they're here with comments.

Skating rink in Marienhof (behind Rathaus)

Every January, there's a big skating rink installed in the open area behind the Rathaus. We walked through one night while the ice was being resurfaced. They were playing German Hip-Hop on the sound system.

The human Zamboni

This is the guy who was resurfacing the ice, underneath the disco-ball.

The skating rink is open until March.

Frauenkirche by night

I love the way my new camera handles low-light settings. At the end of this row of shops are the towers of the Frauenkirche, which (after the Rathaus) is probably the most recognizable landmark in Munich.

The River Isar

The Isar flows through Munich. This picture was taken on the bridge next to the Deutsches Museum, which stands on Museum Insel (Museum Island) in the middle of the Isar.

Isar Tor

The Isar Tor (Isar Gate) is one of the three traditional gates to the city of Munich. This is the oldest Tor (gate) and stands right near the river Isar. It was mostly rebuilt after World War II.

The other two Munich gates to the city are the Sendlinger Tor and Karlstor.

Just down the street from the Isar Tor is a McDonalds in an old building. I found the juxtaposition of styles interesting.
