Chocolate Chip - Oatmeal Cookies

Makes 4 - 5 dozen cookies

My favorite recipe for chocolate chip cookies.  Not everybody likes them with oatmeal, but I think it adds much-needed texture to balance the chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbs milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cup oats, old fashioned or quick
  • 12 oz. (2 cups) chocolate chips (I like semi-sweet)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional; I like pecans)

Method

  1. Heat oven to 375 deg F.
  2. Beat together margarine and sugars until creamy.
  3. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla.  Beat well.
  4. Add combined flour, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
  5. Stir in oats, chocolate chips, and nuts; mix well.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake 7 - 9 minutes for a chewy cookie or 12 - 13 minutes for a crisp cookie.
  8. Cool one minute on cookie sheet, then remove to wire rack or brown paper and cool completely.
  9. Store tightly covered.
