Anna's Sugared Pecans

This is a tasty recipe from my mother-in-law, Anna.  If they are available where you live, I recommend South Georgia Pecan brand pecans.

Another really wonderful (and very simple) treat is to stop after step 1, then shake a little salt over the toasted nuts and eat as is.  Yum.

Method

  1. Toast 2 1/2 cups of pecan halves 20 minutes in a 275 degree F oven.  Cool.
  2. In heavy pan, mix the following:

    1 1/2 cups sugar
    2 Tbs. butter
    1/2 cup sour cream

    Cook these ingredients to soft ball stage (use a candy thermometer).

  3. Add to mixture:

    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla
    toasted pecans

  4. Separate pecans on waxed paper and allow to set and cool.
